Joshua (Josh) Smith, better known by his skating entertainment name Batsmoke or Batman, is an elite roller skater, choreographer, performer, trainer, and SAG-AFTRA actor. He's best known for his role in the award-winning documentary, United Skates, which won the Audience Award at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival and was nominated for an Emmy in 2020. He was the assistant choreographer, skate trainer, and casting associate for the Disney TV show, Saturdays. His skate choreography and training were featured on stage in the Steppenwolf Theatre play, 1919, in October of 2022 and the stage play FALSETTOS at the Court Theatre in November 2024. He collaborated with Blue Chip marketing agency as a roller skating social media influencer for "White Castle Wednesdays", in the summer of 2023.
He's traveled internationally for masterclasses in London, Canada, and just recently in Barcelona for the Skate Love Barcelona Festival 2024 where he also performed center stage in front of hundreds of people.
His television work extends across multiple shows such as Power Book IV: Force, Empire, The Chi, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Emperor of Ocean Park.
He won “Best Male in the Middle” for six consecutive years at the Adrenaline Awards. He took first place at several national skating competitions, won two Skate Master’s championships, twelve national skating titles, and performed a short stint with the UniverSoul Circus. He's been featured in multiple international music festivals, news articles, and performed live on stage in London.
Josh is a current member of The Suicide Kings and the Trendsettas, which are two highly recognized skate groups within the skate community. His involvement has provided him the opportunities to build brotherhoods and lasting relationships with skaters from all over the world.
When Josh is not performing, traveling, or working on set, his time is spent teaching skate lessons, serving as a consultant/advisor in the skate community, and skating at local rinks in the Chicagoland area.
